£50,000 prize fund available for young entrepreneurs in East Kent

The entrepreneurial initiative, Young Start-up Talent, whose aims are to inspire and encourage 16-25 year olds to set up in business, launched at Discovery Park in Sandwich on 26th November 2013 to cover the East Kent area. The initiative provides young people with the opportunity to compete for a £50,000 prize fund worth of business products and services.
Following the success of a London National Showcase event at the Government offices for Business, Innovation and Skills during Global Entrepreneurship Week, the Young Start-up Talent team, sponsors and supporters are excited to see the initiative grow and expand in the South East from the Gatwick Diamond, Brighton & Hove, West Kent areas and now into East Kent. The team will be working in partnership with Town & Country Housing Group to deliver the project to the East Kent region by not only help the project financially but also by providing an employee.

Chief executive of the Kent Channel Chamber of Commerce, Tim Kidd, said “I have always been interested in business from a young age and think it’ a great way of getting our tomorrow in to business now”. The Chamber will be providing 12 months membership to the Chamber to the winner.
The team will be delivering workshops and assemblies to sixth forms, colleges and university students in the area over the next six months to inspire a can-do attitude towards business in the region.
The young entrepreneurs will face a panel of business experts from the local area at K-College in Folkestone next June that will include: Bob Heapy – CEO of Town & Country Housing Group, Pete Kenyon – Partner at Cripps Harries Hall Solicitors, Tracy Newton – Director of Local World News South East, Stephen Mason – MD of Mason International and Founders of the project Lorraine Nugent and Matt Turner.
A showcase event will take place on 11th September 2014 at the Gulbenkian Theatre at the University of Kent in Canterbury where the winner of the prize fund will be announced.

The initiative not only offers a fantastic prize fund, but enables all entrants to make contact with some of the top businesses both in the local and national areas. The project provides entrants with the opportunity to gain expert knowledge and guidance, a unique opportunity that is only available through Young Start-up Talent.

Lorraine May - Centre Manager for Basepoint Business Centre in Folkestone will also contribute to the prize fund by providing a virtual office to the winner - Lorraine further added “It’s very important that we nurture our young entrepreneurs and start-up businesses and help them to develop and grow.”
